Artist Interview: Alicia Marie

From being featured on the national news in North Carolina alongside releasing a stunning visual for "Hebi Jibi", recording artist Alicia Marie is one of the artist you should take a look at. Check out her interview with Du'Lanci Vallie below.

Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?

I feel like I'm open to either side of the coin but I am very firm on everything making sense for my career. I have found that being a genuine creative individual, signing with anyone can risk hindering that process. The disadvantage to being independent is the amount of money and time of your own that has to continuously be put into every move that you make but the advantage to moving in that way is that the wins belong to you. I feel as though I am learning the business enough to be able to continue on as an independent artist either til the end of my career, or until I come across individuals who truly understand my vision. I am in no rush to sign paperwork as of right now.

If you weren't in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

Well I was a manager at Victoria's Secret before this. I would probably still be there now if I hadn't started believing in myself again. I had been working 9-5's consistently since I was 14 years old. I worked as a manager for a few different companies. I had initially tried to pursue a music career years ago and when I found out I was pregnant with my son I tried to take the "responsible" route and maintain a regular career. I always felt unsettled but I was always very good at my job, I always worked very hard so I convinced myself that's what I was going to have to do. Being back in music now, I realize this was the only path I was supposed to take.

What is your latest release and where can fans find it?

I just released my single BOSS on all platforms. You can find that on Spotify, Apple Music, or any streaming service you use. I also dropped a new music video about a month ago called Hebi Jibi. That is available on YouTube and most streaming services as well.

Professionally, where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Sitting pretty. Waking up in the house I promised my son. Living my entire life solely behind my art. I'm going to change the world.

In your own opinion, What is the current music scene like in your local area?

There is a whole lot of talent in North Carolina that I feel gets overlooked often. It's not really considered a music base but so many talented individuals come from here. It's almost as if you have to leave to make it for real. And of course you have the same issues here that you have on any local scene where it's harder to get the people around you to support you than it is to get the stranger's to.

Who do you want to collaborate with in the future?

I would LOVE to sing with Erykah Badu one day. Also Cardi B is lowkey my spirit animal and anything with J Cole would just make me happy.

Is there anything you want to say to our readers?

Definitely tap in. I'm about to start working on a project this month that will change the game up for me as far as my sound goes. I'm really excited to show everyone what I can really do. I'm not here to play around. I definitely understand my purpose and I have tunnel vision all the way there.
