Artist Interview: Dontay
Dropping a debut project is major and recording artist Dontay has been in work mode ever since the release of his debut self titled album "DONTAY".
Coming from Delaware with a great reputation for consistency it’s about time you add Dontay to your playlist.
Check out the interview with Du’Lanci Vallie below.

What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?
I honestly think my biggest advantage about being an indie artist is that I am extremely tapped in with producers on a more personal level, not to mention I can release at any time I want without answering to anyone. My disadvantage is that I don’t have the financial backing as much as major artist do. Although that is soon to change.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
The Internet has made things a lot easier for sure, the process of releasing music for one, but mainly the networking. I have supporters from all across the world, it’s truly insane to think about.
What is your latest release and where fans can find it?
My latest single is named “Wait 4 me” which includes a sample from Tems, it is out on all platforms! but I recently released my debut album and it is one of the best projects I’ve heard all year, of course I may be biased.
Are you able to make a living with your music? If so, how were you able to attain a career doing what you love? If not, what do you do in order to fund your music career? What advice would give to someone who's interested in pursuing a career in music?
I make decent money off of features at the moment, not enough to live off of yet, also the streams are not making a killing either, big hopes that all will change around and by the next year or so I’ll be making music full time. My biggest advice is to remain level headed and just enjoy the grind because you won’t become a millionaire overnight.
What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?
My proudest moment of my career was me hosting and headlining my own show on my birthday! I planned it, paid for it, and performed! I also have a ton of people their first opportunity to come out and perform and network as well!

Everyone in life goes through adversity of some sort. Is there anything in your life that has any influence on the kind of songs you write? What is the most difficult thing you've had to endure on your path to becoming a musician?
I’ve went broke way too much in my life to be honest. Doing that and dealing with a bunch of other anxiety and personal stuff caused a bunch of problems which I talk about in my music, I also speak on my relationship or heartbreak from previous relationships as well.
What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2022?
I have an EP releasing August 26 so we can look forward to hearing that as I start working on my next album, which could be done this year but I am not rushing it! You’ll also hear me on a ton of features as well.
