Artist Interview: Hazel Sno

After performing a vibrant song set at a showcase in Harlem, New York recording artist Hazel Sno sat down with Du'Lanci Vallie for a short interview.

What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

THE IMPACT ! I have always loved music but I never saw myself being a superstar until quarantine hit. At that point I was like look at the state of Hip Hop. Seeing the ones before me made me eager to jump into this industry and leave my mark !

What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

What inspires me the most is the technology and the creative direction behind these artists. Music has become open to all people and groups. I love how it incorporates theater and dance.

What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

My latest release on streaming platforms is my single titled ‘Nobody’. The official music video is on my YouTube channel. You can also find some of my songs on SoundCloud and I post freestyles on my Instagram every Friday/Saturday.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

BOTH. I would have to say both because they go hand and hand. When I’m in the studio I’m usually with my 3 best friends (Joi, Kayla and Zaay) so I’m in a safe setting where I’m able to think and create. When I get on stage this creativity is brought to life. If you guys notice my outfit of choice always goes with the song themes. So hmmm maybe I like performing more Idk all I know is that anything with music is my passion.

How do you think the internet and social media affected the music industry and how musicians are able to market themselves?

It is definitely easier to share your music using tik tok or Instagram to reach wider audiences. On the other hand this has negatively impacted the industry because it had made it oversaturated. So it’s really less of a talent thing and more of a clout competition.

What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?

My biggest advantage is that I can literally drop whatever I want when I want. Nobody controls any aspect of my craft. I’m kind of like my own boss, which I like. A negative is that money plays a HUGE roll in this Industry. I fund my dream and I’m a hustler so I won’t complain.

Is there anything you want to say to our readers?

I love you guys. Thank you for reading this far. I hope you become fans. You can find me on all platforms @hazelsno. Stream ‘Nobody’ and check out my music vid. I can’t wait for you guys to watch me grow as an artist. Price just went up !
