Artist Interview: Jylene

You might've seen her in a music video on youtube before but if you haven't here's the chance to get to know recording artist and entrepreneur Jylene representing Brooklyn, New York. Check out her latest interview with Du'Lanci Vallie below.

What is your creative process like?

My creative process is just me being alone in my own space , I need to be isolated and in my own zone to create my music , And to be in touch with my vision and what I want to create at the moment . Also listening to a lot of older tracks from back in the days play a role in the process of my music , I find a lot of inspiration from that as well.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop as an artist?

When faced with making a big decision, how do you decide what is the right thing to do?

I have been so much more consistent when it comes to writing my music and investing time and money into my career . No matter where I am it could be in the crib, walking down the block or even in a car , I’m already creating lyrics in my head or writing it down on my notes . I know nobody’s going to push me as hard as I will for myself so I got on that quick . Also Finding the right engineers and making sure i am comfortable working with people who can learn my vibe, Then put it together the way I Envision it is helping me grow as an artist as well as grow my relationships with people who can help me in the process.

Are you able to make a living with your music? If so, how were you able to attain a career doing what you love? If not, what do you do in order to fund your music career? What advice would you give to someone who's interested in pursuing a career in music?

When faced with a big decision I don’t ever fold under pressure , I go with what feels right . I put a lot of thought into every move I make wether that's life in general or my career . I always tell people knowledge comes from experience so I try and use that saying throughout my life when making any decision , I go with what I already know or what I have already taught myself.

My advice to anyone trying to start a music career is if you’re not willing to go broke for it you don’t really want it ! . You will not be able to make a living off your music if you do not find a hustle or a way to fund and invest in yourself and your craft . Whether that’s a 9-5 or a business make sure you’re putting some money aside for your vision . My goal is to make a living off my music so I use my living and my hustle as a way to fund my career .

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

What makes me stand out is I do my own thing . I was never easily influenced or copying a trend . I sing and rap on one track which I feel is really hard to find in upcoming artist these days . Everyone is doing the drill scene right now , But when people come across my music they don’t expect me to switch from these strong singing vocals to the drill rap . I sing about what I’m going through at the moment and use my most authentic feelings in every song and not just what I feel is lit right now , That makes people connect with me a lot more . I have a good ear for music and I know what sounds good on a track versus what doesn’t . I’m real , I say what people are thinking and don’t want to say out loud . And I feel I speak for most people with my bluntness in music . I don’t hold back

Would you agree that it is very important to learn, study and understand old music and music history?

I always listened to old music and found inspiration within the melody’s and the beats they would use . I feel it’s important to study old music Especially in this generation where everyone is sticking to one thing . People feel that rnb is dead and they’re trying to move on to whatever’s the next hot topic but you start to hear it in their music .It can help you become versatile and find your own sound since there's a lot of great options and different vibes to go with.

If you weren't in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

I have always been a people’s person. I love to give back and I love to leave people with good memories and experiences to hold onto . I feel if I wasn’t so focused on my music I would definitely be doing something for the community or the kids . Which is another reason why I count my blessings because I know i would be able to do a lot more when my time comes.

What is your latest release and where can fans find it?

My latest release is called STAY . You can find it on my YouTube channel as well as some of my other songs.

What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2023?

2023 I will be dropping so much more music and visuals to go along with that . Doing some collabs as well with other artist . And I have a song dropping April 1st and another dropping the same month . Leaving everyone with music you can listen to years from now . Expect a lot of consistency.
