Artist Interview: Mello & M33shka

While making a brief stop in New York City Mello & M33shka sat down with Du'Lanci Vallie during a secret production for a interview.
Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?
We feel like there would have to be specific circumstances if we did work with a label as far as contracts go, especially regarding not being limited to only working with certain artists and producers. Of course project based production deals are a definite goal, and we believe that pursuing independently is entirely attainable, especially given the strength of the independent music community lately, but we’re certainly not closing doors on any opportunities to achieve our goals.

What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?
The increased ease of access to crafting your own personal musical expression and the ability to connect directly with listeners through social media and technology. Being able to connect and collaborate with other creators at the push of a button not only allows us to hear what individuals are trying to say, but also gives us the direction we need to make music that others can enjoy and draw inspiration and comfort from.
What is your latest release and where fans can find it?
Our latest release is “Do This” featuring FOE DidIt and motorcitymello (Mello) on the vocals - it is out on all streaming platforms under “Mello&M33shka”
Professionally, where do you see you 5 years from now?
There’s a lot of different plans in the works for the future, but 5 years down the line we hope to be working at an established level that allows us to share our music worldwide. There’s still a long way to go to perfecting our craft as engineers/producers, and ideally even as artists ourselves.

How do you think the internet and social media affected the music industry and how musicians are able to market themselves?
The main difficulty in today’s society with marketing and promotion with social media is over saturation and how difficult it access accurate information and help due to gate keeping in the music industry, but overall we think there a lot more options for independent musicians can market themselves and get out there than ever before.
Who do you want to collaborate with in the future?
We would definitely like to collaborate with Du’Lanci! And many friends amongst upcoming artists and producers such as Elaine Kristal, International Nova, Yckmn, and many many more.
As far as a dream collaboration goes within the industry, it would be amazing to work with Project Pat, Gucci Mane, and Snoop Dogg to start!
