Artist Interview: Yellow Tapee

Recording artist Yellow Tapee recently preformed at the legendary SOBS in New York City and thankfully TGWEWON's Du'Lanci Vallie was in the field and able to cover and interview this upcoming artist.

Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?

I understand you may need labels sometimes or the connections and extra hand and that’s understandable I’ll prefer to be independent and make it and build my own label and sign artists but don’t give me wrong if somebody tryna sign me and the money and the contract looking good after lawyering up IM IN THERE cause you have to start from somewhere to build up . I’ll never be fast and sign any contract tho I definitely turned down a few offers in the past. So I’m not saying I would only take the independent route or get signed but I’m with whatever will help my career and benefit my music this is a deep question that I can’t just answer 123 I need to personally speak up on this question it’s such a deep topic for me .. but I don’t mind signing to a label I prefer the independent route

What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

Lil Wayne is my favorite rapper and inspired me in a big way to rap and say certain things how I do on a track I love weezy I am definitely giving female weezy and that’s just that . The new generation kind of dumbing it down for the people but it’s a bop so everything inspires me long as I can make a hit from it.

3. What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

I currently dropped a light 6 pack of freestyles with no hooks called NO HOOK it’s on ALL MAJOR PLATFORMS feel free to download that and check it out I got some visuals out on YouTube make sure yall subscribe to my channel (YellowTapee) new music and visuals on the way !

Professionally, where do you see you 5 years from now?

On The BET awards , nominated not caring if I even win just happy to be there . And if that don’t happen in 5 years it’s because it’s happening in less either way IM NEVER GIVING UP!

How do you think the internet and social media affected the music industry and how musicians are able to market themselves?

I think social media actually affected the industry in a big way because now it’s easier to get seen rather then from back in the days. Now on social media it’s million of ways to promote yourself as a artist your brand or your music/talent . I think social media helped me a lot I got connected to people I never thought I’d be around like Jim Jones Phresher EtherDaConnect Cokah And it’s many more where that came from. I just feel like everybody should take advantage of the social platforms right now to promote they music but don’t get too comfortable because if the social media shut down today you have to find ways to make money and promote your music and still go so that’s just my little advice.

Who do you want to collaborate with in the future?

Lil Wayne , Da Baby & Meek Mill & those my top 3 IDC IDC IDC don’t ask why lmao ima go off yall lmfaoooooooo
