Representing the South Jamaica Queens area of New York City, recording artist and vocal engineer G.E.O has began making a name for himself through each release and the talk has just begun. Get to know more about G.E.O by reading the full interview with Du'Lanci Vallie below.
If you wasn't in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?
To be honest I have no idea what I would be doing instead, whatever it would be I know it would have something to do with creating. I feel like I'm my best version of myself when I'm tapping into some sort of creativity. Other than that I never really thought about it, I've just never been as passionate about anything like I am with music.
Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?
I'm not opposed to either, I think whatever makes the most sense for the artist should be the route they pursue. I could see myself being signed because it could help me reach a wider audience but only if it doesn't compromise anything on the creative side. At the end of the day music is my passion and it wont work unless it remains to feel that way.
What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?
Honestly I would probably say having people i've never met before reach out because they listen to my music. I've even gotten recognized in public a few times for music alone. I think as an artist coming it could get difficult when you're not sure if people are actually listening, it's a beautiful thing when you realize they are.
Out of all the songs you've released, what do you think is your Best song and why?
I'm not sure what song I'd consider my best song because I feel like my catalog is so versatile. It depends on what type of vibe you're looking for, different people would probably have different answers if I asked. I will say probably the most impactful thing I dropped is my first project “World On My Shoulders” (Available on all streaming platforms btw) only because I think this is when I really started to find myself as an artist, I found out who G.E.O really is.
Are you able to make a living with your music? If so, how were you able to attain a career doing what you love? If not, what do you do in order to fund your music career? What advice would give to someone who's interested in pursuing a career in music?
I am currently not making a living with my music, I do any and everything I can to continue to fund my music. I'm completely invested in myself and my dreams, I know I'm talented enough and I work hard enough for it to all work out. The advice I'd probably give is only do it if it's something you truly love, there will be ups and there will be downs and it'll only be worth it if it's something you're passionate about.
Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
I currently have not performed anywhere but starting very soon I will do shows that I've been planning on doing.
What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?
I think I stand especially being an artist coming up from NYC because I sound different, I look different and I never try to be something I'm not. NYC is full of a bunch of talented people but I think people rather chase a wave or a sound that isn't really them just because they think that's what's gonna get them to the top faster. I want people to listen to my music and really think he's not just a rapper he's really an artist.
What is your latest release and where fans can find it?
My latest release is actually a freestyle I did for a production company me and my videographer/brother @shotbylonely co-founded. It's called “Building Blocks” and you could actually find “Building Blocks Freestyle EP 1 ft G.E.O” on my instagram and the official Building Blocks instagram which is @buildingblocksprod. Go show us some love.
What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2022?
The year is nearly over and there's still so much to come. I got some new music and some new visuals on the way. I really wanna end the year strong so i can carry that momentum into 2023 and grind the year out like i've never done before. I'm only getting started and I'm gonna make sure G.E.O is a name everyone knows.
