Artist Interview: Jersey Mic

Atlanta is home of many talented faces and recording artist Jersey Mic is definitely one of them. Displaying a notable lyrical ability throughout each release, Jersey Mic is a perfect example of a artist staying true to their craft. Check out the interview with Du’Lanci Vallie below.

What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?

I'd have to say that my biggest advantage of being an indie artist is being able to paint my own image & having free reign over my material. It's one of those things that creates more of an independence and I'm able to say that I've accomplished various goals with only the resources I've worked with. One of the biggest disadvantages has to be the fact that a lot of people aren't really excited with music these days just because everyone sounds the same now. So, when I present myself and my music, I'm looked at as "another rapper" but my message is beyond different.

If you wasn't in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

Honestly, I can see myself playing football or being an expert gamer. Before I got into music, I started a YouTube channel where I would record myself playing Sonic The Hedgehog and broadcasting my world records for everyone to see. The reason why I'd say football is because I truly have a passion for the sport and the talent you have to possess in order to play, and plus i enjoy running fast and making people look discombobulated out on the field.

What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

I just released a single on my birthday (July 23) titled; "I Do It For Hip-Hop". It can be purchased on iTunes && available for streaming on all major platforms.

Professionally, where do you see you 5 years from now?

I KNOW I will be rapping alongside Nas, Dave East, J.Cole, Jay-Z, etc. I KNOW I have more than what it takes to accomplish that goal. I can feel myself getting closer and closer with everyday that passes by!

In your own opinion, What is the current music scene like in your local area?

Well, I live in Atlanta, despite this not being my birthplace. It's HEAVILY populated with "trap" rappers && to be different here and succeed is a challenge. I feel like Atlanta itself has a lot to offer and they're some GREAT artists to come out of this city. There are various places that artists can perform at (bars, strip clubs, parties, etc.) depending on who you know. I will also say that it's a blessing to see there's culture all through the music scene in this city besides just rap.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

I'd have to say performing is my utmost favorite aspect of my music. I love being in the studio too but that's where the song is MADE and when i perform, that's when the song is FELT. I get to express certain mannerisms and show my character to the audience versus them just hearing my voice on wax.
